Cutback Bitumen

Cutback Bitumen

Cutback bitumen is a solvent-blended asphalt binder designed for cold‑weather applications and quick‑set roadworks. By varying the solvent volatility, we offer three curing grades—Rapid (RC), Medium (MC), and Slow (SC)—each tailored to specific construction and maintenance needs.

1. Rapid Curing (RC) Cutback Bitumen

Overview:
RC grades combine bitumen with highly volatile solvents (e.g., naphtha or low‑boiling gasoline), enabling fast evaporation and binder setting.

Key Properties:

  • Solvent Type: Naphtha / Gasoline

  • Curing Time: 30–60 minutes

  • Viscosity (at 25 °C): 20–100 cSt

Typical Uses:

  • Surface treatments and distributor sprays

  • Tack coats for new overlays

  • Emergency pothole repairs in mild climates

2. Medium Curing (MC) Cutback Bitumen

Overview:
MC grades use kerosene‑based solvents for medium‑speed evaporation, balancing workability and setting time.

Key Properties:

  • Solvent Type: Kerosene

  • Curing Time: 2–4 hours

  • Viscosity (at 25 °C): 100–300 cSt

Typical Uses:

  • Cold mixes for patching

  • Road base binder courses

  • Maintenance overlays where extended handling is needed

3. Slow Curing (SC) Cutback Bitumen

Overview:
SC grades utilize heavy oils or diesel as solvents, providing prolonged workability and deep substrate penetration.

Key Properties:

  • Solvent Type: Diesel / Heavy oil

  • Curing Time: 8–24+ hours

  • Viscosity (at 25 °C): 300–1,000 cSt

Typical Uses:

  • Primer applications on low‑porosity surfaces

  • Dust control on unpaved roads

  • Binding moist or fine aggregates in cold climates
