Petroleum Jelly Overview:
Petroleum Jelly, also known as Petrolatum or Soft Paraffin, is a semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. It is odorless, tasteless, and exhibits excellent moisture barrier properties. Its smooth, non-irritating texture makes it suitable for cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. Depending on the refining process, it is available in white (medical/cosmetic grade) or yellow (industrial grade) varieties.
Applications:
Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Use – Acts as a skin protectant, moisturizer, and ointment base in creams, lip balms, and baby care products.
Lubrication – Used in machinery as a light-duty lubricant and anti-rust agent.
Textile & Leather Processing – Serves as a finishing agent to provide softness and water resistance.
Electrical Insulation – Acts as a protective sealant in cable splicing and jointing.
Rust Prevention – Applied to tools and machinery for corrosion protection.
Adhesives & Polishes – Functions as a binding and smoothening agent in wax polishes.
Petroleum Jelly Types
We offer a range of high-quality Soft Paraffin grades, each tailored for specific applications across cosmetic, industrial, and medical sectors.
🔹 Cosmetic Petroleum Jelly
Cosmetic Petroleum Jelly is a highly refined, skin-safe variant used primarily in beauty and personal care products. It is white or off-white in color, odorless, and has a smooth, creamy texture. This type of Petrolatum acts as an effective occlusive agent, forming a barrier that locks in moisture, making it ideal for treating dry skin, chapped lips, and minor skin irritations. It’s commonly found in moisturizers, lip balms, baby care items, and makeup removers.
Because it is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, Cosmetic Petrolatum is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Manufacturers favor it for its stability, long shelf life, and compatibility with other ingredients in creams, lotions, and ointments. It meets cosmetic-grade standards and complies with health and safety regulations required for use in direct skin-contact products.
Our Cosmetic Grade Petroleum Jelly is highly refined, odorless, and safe for direct skin contact. It forms a moisture-locking barrier, making it ideal for:
Skincare creams & lotions
Lip balms & baby care products
Makeup removers & moisturizers
Cosmetic petroleum jelly is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and meets international cosmetic safety standards. Supplied in white, soft form for smooth application and easy formulation.
🔹 Industrial Petroleum Jelly
Industrial Petroleum Jelly is a less refined grade designed for non-cosmetic applications such as machinery lubrication, rust prevention, cable jointing, and leather processing. It usually has a yellowish color and may retain a mild petroleum odor. Its thicker consistency and high viscosity make it an effective protective coating for metal surfaces and tools, preventing oxidation and corrosion in harsh environments.
Due to its excellent hydrophobic and adhesive properties, industrial Soft Paraffin is also used in the rubber, plastic, and electrical industries as a sealant or lubricant. While it shares the same base hydrocarbon structure as other grades, it is not suitable for medical or cosmetic use due to the lower level of purification and the possible presence of minor impurities that are acceptable in industrial contexts.
Industrial Petroleum Jelly is used as a protective, insulating, and lubricating agent in a wide variety of technical applications. It is yellowish in color and thicker in consistency, ideal for:
Rust prevention & tool coating
Cable filling & wire joint sealing
Rubber & leather treatment
Lubrication of mechanical parts
This grade is cost-effective and engineered for performance in non-medical, non-cosmetic environments where purity standards are less stringent.
🔹 Medical Petroleum Jelly
Medical Petroleum Jelly, also known as pharmaceutical-grade petrolatum, is the most highly refined type, processed to meet USP, BP, or EP standards. It is purified to remove aromatic hydrocarbons, ensuring it is safe for use in wound care, surgical applications, and topical medications. This grade is sterile or sterilizable and is often used as a base for ointments, skin treatments, and burn relief products.
Its non-toxic, hypoallergenic properties make it ideal for sensitive skin and mucous membranes. In hospitals and clinical settings, medical petroleum jelly is used to protect skin from friction and moisture loss and is also applied to surgical instruments and gloves for lubrication. It undergoes rigorous quality control to meet safety and purity requirements for human use, distinguishing it from cosmetic and industrial variants.
Our Medical Grade Petroleum Jelly meets USP/BP/EP standards for pharmaceutical use. It is sterile or sterilizable, non-toxic, and dermatologically safe, ideal for:
Topical ointment and wound care base
Surgical lubrication and medical barrier creams
Hospital and clinical skin protection
This grade is colorless to white, odorless, and undergoes rigorous purification to ensure the highest safety for direct human use.
