Oxidized Bitumen 115/15

General Description

Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 is also known as blown bitumen 115/15 or R115/15. It is one of the hard grades of oxidized bitumen produced in continuous or staggered blowing methods. Blown bitumen 115/15 made by using pure bitumen, namely penetration bitumen 60/70, as a raw material in strictly controlled conditions.

Heated bitumen 60/70 is aerated by passing high degree heated air through it to obtain a final product with required properties. R115/15 is defined by its softening point and needle penetration like other grades of bitumen. Oxidized bitumen 115/15 gets a rubbery property during aeration procedure. This property maintains it to be used in many industries, especially in industries of main importance, such as the petroleum industry.

Technical Properties : Oxidized Bitumen 115/15

Oxidized Bitumen R115/15 is defined by two numbers which express the softening point and the needle penetration measurement, respectively. For this grade, the softening point is equal to 115 °C and the needle penetration is equal to 15 desi-millimeter. These parameters are measured with the test methods of ASTM International organization. Based on these methods, softening point and penetration degree are obtained by ASTM D36 and ASTM D5, respectively.

Applications : Oxidized Bitumen 115/15

PUB-LTD manufactured Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 (or Blown Bitumen 115/15) is used in numerous industrial applications and operations. It has a more rubbery characteristic than the previous grades; because of its special properties formed in oxidation procedure. It is used in the production of special paints, civil engineering, construction, road construction, roofing, coating, flooring, producing anti-slip layer components. It is used as an undercarriage sealant in the cars and automotive industry. It is also used in the piling industry, electrical operations, cable coating, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, paper pulp production, bituminous products, textile, joint filling compound, and sound-reducing agent production, dust proofing, waterproofing, lacquers, varnishes, pavements, fuel combination and paving. Also, it’s used as a raw material for adhesive, insulation, isolation bitumen membrane sheet, in bitumen-based building chemicals and special bitumen-based paints and varnishes to protect metal structures from corrosion, hydraulic applications and operations. It is also used in Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf and in rubber and plastic production.

Handling/Storage : Oxidized Bitumen 115/15

Heating bitumen for most of the final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃. All oxidized bitumens are risk free below 100℃ during shipping operations. Heating and heat transfer should be controlled. Without appropriate heat transfer it can be subject to overheating and release low flash vapors. These unwanted side products have a higher fire risk. Also, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to get cold. Because this can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices are very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the real temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
