Usually roofing asphalts are blown through asphalt flux. An exothermic oxidation reaction occurs, yielding an asphalt that is harder, more viscous, less volatile, and less temperature-susceptible than the asphalt flux used as the feed-stock to the process.

The blown asphalt 115/15 products are for paving, roofing.
Also used in asphalt based paints for corrosion protection of metals, in lining public works structures, adhesives in electrical laminates, base for synthetic turf.
